1. Don’t Be a Traffic Conduit: Barker warns against simply sending traffic directly to affiliate offers. Instead, he advises affiliates to act as intermediaries, adding value between the traffic and the merchant. This way, affiliates can optimize their conversions and ensure they aren’t just a free source of traffic for merchants who profit from the backend.

2. Buy What You Sell: Barker emphasizes the importance of promoting products or services you genuinely know and care about. Many affiliates make the mistake of chasing “hot” markets they have no personal interest in, but he suggests affiliates should focus on areas they are passionate about. To find good affiliate products, he recommends considering what you personally buy or are interested in, even imagining what you would purchase if you had to start over from scratch.

3.  Add value: Marketing is about creating, communicating, and delivering value. Successful affiliate marketers focus on providing value to their audience, which leads to better conversions and consistent income. It’s not about shortcuts or simply getting paid.

4.  Build and nurture lists: Creating and maintaining a list of prospects is critical. Even simple follow-up messages can significantly boost your conversion rates.  A list enables you to sell multiple products to the same people over time, leading to higher earnings and better returns on traffic spend.
